Klondike Solitaire: The Draw-One Classic

Klondike Solitaire turns a shuffled deck into a puzzle of small discoveries. Build columns downward in alternating colors, uncover hidden cards, and move each suit to its foundation from Ace to King. In Klondike Gold 24K, the Klondike mode draws one card at a time. The collection is coming soon for iPhone and iPad.

A familiar layout with hidden possibilities

The opening tableau has seven columns. Each successive column holds one more card, with only its bottom card face up. The remaining cards form the stock. Drawing turns one stock card onto the waste, where its top card becomes available. When the stock is exhausted, this version lets you turn the waste over and continue through it.

A black seven can sit on a red eight; a red Queen can sit on a black King. You may move a correctly ordered face-up sequence together. Clearing a covered card exposes a new choice, while an empty column accepts a King or a sequence beginning with one.

Look for moves that reveal more

Before moving a card, look at what the move makes available. Moving a six is especially helpful when it uncovers the face-down card underneath. Transferring a King into an empty column can create room to uncover another pile, but keep an eye on which King frees the most useful space. A move that is legal is not always the move that gives you the most options.

Use the foundations thoughtfully. Sending an Ace home is straightforward, while moving a higher card may remove a temporary landing place that another column still needs. Compare both possibilities when several moves are open; no single rule solves every shuffled deal.

Learn comfortably, then try a full deal

The app begins with an easy Klondike warm-up and offers full shuffled deals when you are ready. Hints can point to a possible next action, Undo lets you revisit a choice, and optional easy taps help place cards. Your current game saves locally, making it easy to pause and return on the same device.

Klondike and Classic Solitaire share the foundation-building rules in this collection. Their difference is the stock: Klondike draws one, Classic draws three. Finish becomes available only when the app can verify a legal completion path. Full shuffled deals are not guaranteed solvable, so a fresh deal is always another puzzle.

Common questions

What is the goal of Klondike Solitaire?

Move all 52 cards to the four foundations, keeping each suit separate and building each foundation from Ace through King.

Can any card go in an empty column?

In Klondike, an empty tableau column accepts a King or a descending alternating-color sequence headed by a King. FreeCell uses a different empty-column rule.

Is draw one easier than draw three?

Draw one makes each stock card available in turn, which can be easier to follow while learning. Draw three changes which stock cards you can reach immediately.
